The special chip boosts engine power by almost 30 per cent and will change your sober car into a screaming demon.

New Delhi: Many of us dream of making our car a hot-rod, but are scared of trusting the neighbourhood mechanics with the expensive four wheeler.

If that's the story of your life, check this out. With just a laptop and a special chip, you can make your ride breathe fire.

If in the good old days one felt the need for speed but did not worry about the cost then they would strip the engine apart, every nut and bolt of it.

Then grind the valves, polish the ports and put in all kinds of exotic machinery. The only problem was that it took a lot of sweat, grime and time.

And after all the hard work, it could still be a dud. Today, things have changed.

"The world's gone digital and today, all I need to make my car a rocket is this chip. Just a couple of hours working with my laptop and this thing could become a beast," a chipping expert Arush says.

"It's clean, fast and what's even better, I can take the chip out or reprogramme it whenever I want, so no one knows I've tampered with the car," he adds.

Modern cars have a computer chip on board to regulate engine performance.

Car-makers often programme it for a bit less than full power - to adjust to poor quality fuel you get from the friendly petrol pumps.

Guys like Arush simply throw out the old chip or reprogramme it - so your car can go all out from the word go.

"Both petrol and diesel can be chipped but diesel is preferred because of stronger engines. Ready made chips for European cars like Skoda/ Merc/ BMW are available. We can also custom design chips for Japanese cars like Honda/ Accent etc," Arush says. .

Movies like Fast and Furious have already put people on to the art of chipping. It boosts engine power by almost 30 per cent and will change your sober sedan into a screaming demon.

At Rs 25,000 to 50,000, it definitely isn't cheap and if you're caught, it voids your car's insurance and warrantee. But for those with a penchant for burning rubber, chipping is still the way to go.

What's your reaction?
