CHENNAI: Now Chennaites can avail of branded Chinese mobile phones for less than Rs 1,000 and a 3G phone for Rs 4,000. With the launch of ForMe Mobiles, one of China’s leading mobile brands, on Tuesday, the city will soon have affordable and cheap branded telephones.“This is the first branded Chinese company to launch mobile phones in India. It is launched to protect our customers as well as image of Chinese mobile phones,” said Jiang Delong, founder of ForMe. “Most of the time you go to a mobile phone vendor, you don’t get a warranty or service agency for the phone. Now this requirement will be fulfilled with the launch of ForMe handsets,” he added.ForMe, which is headquartered in Meitai Industrial Park in Shenzen, China, with an initial investment of one billion renminbi, enters the Indian market through ‘Peace Telecom’, a marketing and trading company based in Hong Kong.“Currently, we will be launching five new Dual Sim models with all the latest features at the most economical prices,” said Abdul Gaffar, Director of Peace Telecom India. He said the phones will have a one year warranty and will adhere to strict quality control.ForMe plans to sell one lakh handsets in the four southern states. “We will be selling about 20,000 to 25,000 mobile phones in Chennai,” he said adding that the third generation mobile phones will be launched by October or November in the range of `4,000 to `5,000. “The market in South India is vast and we have invested about Rs 20 crore and expect a growth of about 10 to 15 per cent this year.”
