CHENNAI: Two persons, who allegedly snatched chains by using a two-wheeler with a ‘press’ sticker on it, were arrested in Chengalpet, Kancheepuram district on Thursday. As much as 50 sovereigns of jewels were recovered from the duo. Acting on reports of several chain snatching cases in Kancheepuram, special police teams were formed to nab the duo.According to police, Vijay (25), a graduate and a former mobile store employee from Theni district and Rajesh (25) of Padalam were arrested by a special police team after they were caught snatching a chain from a 23-year-old woman near Maraimalai Nagar.Police found that the duo were using a two-wheeler with ‘Press’ stickers on the front and back of the vehicle. However, probe with other journalists revealed that they were not scribes. Investigations also revealed their involvement in 25 cases of chain snatching in Chengalpet town alone. The duo would snatch jewellery from women walking alone on roads. They also pawned part of the loot at shops in Dindigul and Chengalpet for `5 lakh.
