Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Monday said it would wind up the probe being conducted by the state police into the derailment and crash of the Gyaneshwari Express and hand over the findings to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
"We will hand over the charge of investigation to the CBI and will wind up the investigation carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the state police," state Home Secretary Samar Ghosh said at the state secretariat in Kolkata on Monday.
The state government instituted the CID probe into the May 28 Gyaneshwari Express tragedy in which 148 persons were killed. Later, following a demand from Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Central government ordered a CBI inquiry into the accident.
