CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has granted one day custody of S Seenivasan, who was arrested in connection with an alleged attack on Minister for Commercial Taxes and Law, C Ve Shanmugam, in 2006, in which one person was killed, to the CBI.The attack that took place a few days before the 2006 Assembly polls led to the hacking of Muruganandham, an aide of the incumbent minister. On Tuesday, the court granted the CBI custody of Seenivasan (65), brother of PMK leader S Ramadoss, at 1 pm and directed the CBI to produce him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at 4 pm on Wednesday. The court also made it clear that Seenivasan should not be harassed and should be given adequate medical and food facilities during the custody period. The CBI’s plea was turned down by the CJM of Chengalpet on Jan 30 and hence, the present petition. The CBI had contended that the custodial interrogation of Seenivasan alone would throw more light on the criminal conspiracy and the role of the others.
