THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 500 candidates, who appeared for the first-ever Central Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the capital city on Sunday, alleged that the poor organisation on the part of the authorities marred their hopes of clearing the test. 550 candidates from various parts of the state who appeared for the exam at Sree Narayana Public School at Gurudevapuram, near Chenkottukonam, raised the complaint after the exam. They alleged that the delay of the school authorities in distributing question papers resulted in candidates losing precious time. Even though, the exam started late, the candidates were not given extra time to compensate the loss. The candidates alleged that according to the hall tickets received by them, they were instructed to be present at the examination centre at 8.45 a.m. and enter the examination hall at 9 a.m. The question papers were scheduled to be distributed at 9.15 a.m. and the exam at 9.30 a.m. However, the question papers were distributed only after 9.45 a.m., which in turn caused another delay of 15 minutes to commence the exam. As a result, the candidates lost a total of 30 minutes. The candidates alleged that the answer sheets were snatched away by invigilators at the scheduled time itself without any leniency. A candidate, who did not want his name to be revealed, said that when they approached the principal of the school, he offered them to grant moderation in marks to compensate the time loss. "His offer was a folly as the exam was being conducted by the CBSE and the power to grant moderation vested with the board alone,’’ he said. The candidates have filed a complaint with the Kazhakoottam Police Station. They have also prepared a memorandum signed by all the candidates, which would be sent to the Director of CBSE on Monday. The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by the CBSE to recruit teachers to CBSE schools across the country.
