BHUBANESWAR: The Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) has welcomed the UK visit of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik saying that it promises to add a new chapter to Odisha’s relations with Britain by strengthening the existing bond between them.The focus during the eight-day visit beginning May 22 would be on the developmental initiatives launched in Odisha by UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and the promotion of State’s exquisite handloom products.Besides, the DFID will extend support to the uplift of disadvantaged Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe girls in Odisha. The programme which aims to reduce the dropout rate among the SC and ST girls in schools will cover all 30 districts. Each girl covered under the programme will be a major beneficiary. Naveen will finalise the details of the scheme in his discussion with the DFID top brass.The Chief Minister will also inaugurate the first-ever exhibition of handloom products of Odisha in London. Hailing the Chief Minister’s initiative to bring the State under international focus, BYJD president Sanjay Dasburma said that it would go a long way in ensuring the economic prosperity of the State and enriching its varied cultural tradition.
