THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The City Corporation has bagged the award for community mobilisation under BSUP (Basic Service to Urban Poor), which is a component of JNNURM. It is the Kudumbashree which is the State-level Nodal Agency (SLNA) for implementing BSUP/IHSDP under JNNURM.The award, carrying a prize money of ` 3 lakh and a memento, was received by the Mayor and Corporation Secretary at the National Conference on JNNURM inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Sarada Muraleedharan, Kudumbashree Executive Director, was also present.The award is in recognition of the outstanding efforts taken by the City Corporation for community mobilisation under the BSUP project during the April 2006-September 2011 period. The award was constituted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation to recognise commendable efforts made by cities and states towards implementation of JNNURM. JNNURM - the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission - is aimed at redevelopment of Indian cities. BSUP - Basic Services to Urban Poor, a component of JNNURM, is exclusively aimed at the urban poor living in slum/squatter settlements in cities and towns.
