KOCHI: Brahma-12, the national-level technical and cultural festival commenced at Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technolgy with Tyagaraja Aradana. The classical music feast took the audience to sublime heights as they swayed to the raga and tapped to the thala of the ‘pancharatna keerthanas.’N P Ramaswamy, Malini Hariharan, Kumara Kerala Varma and Mathangi Sathyamurthy led the pancharatnakeertahalapam. It took the audience to a bygone era even as it linked the past with the present and traced the evolution of Carnatic music. The rendering of keertanas by 151 students not only from the college but also from Sri Sarada Vidyalaya, Sri Sankara College and Adi Shankara Training College were a treat to the senses. The songs ‘Jagadanandakaaraka...’ in ‘Natta ragam’, ‘Sadhinjane’ in ‘Arabhi ragam’, ‘Kanakaanruchira’ in ‘Varali ragam’ and ‘Enthorumahanubhavlu’ in ‘Sree ragam’ struck a chord in every heart. After the soulful rendering of music, Carnatic music exponent Mysore Nagmani was honoured. This was followed by the enchanting fusion dance by the college students. The afternoon saw stiff contests in music, both vocal and instrument and bharatanatyam. The evening shone with the heart rending ‘Nrityasandya’ led actor Lakshmi Gopalaswamy. The technofest will be inaugurated by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment Vice-President V N Rajashekaran Pillai on Thursday. Around 800 students are all set to participate in different contests. The festival will conclude on Friday.
