New Delhi: After securing a quarter-final berth in the doubles, India's Rohan Bopanna bit dust in his singles campaign, slumping to a first-round defeat to a Swiss qualifier in the ATP Challenger Series in Segovia, Spain on Tuesday.
Bopanna lost 3-6, 3-6 to Michael Kratochvil in the $1,25,000 hardcourt event.
The big serving Indian, though, can look forward to his doubles campaign where he is partnering Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi.
The duo, seeded third in the event, went on to win doubles titles at Manchester and Nottingham in the last two weeks.
Bopanna's compatriot Mustafa Ghouse, partering German Frank Moser, too, advanced in the doubles as the fourth seeded pair overcame stiff competition from wildcards Guillermo Alcaide and Oscar Burrieza to enter the quarter-finals.
Ghouse and Moser beat the Spaniards 2-6 7-5 10-6.
The Indo-German pair will now be up against Kratochvil and Gilles Muller of Luxembourg.
