THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An explosion created panic in the Kadakampally area, near Valiyathura, here on Wednesday morning. The explosion took place at the house of Anilkumar alias Janko Kumar of Balanagar, Mettukkad, Kadakampally, when an explosive kept in the almirah of the house burst around 10 am. No major damage for the house was reported.According to the police, it was not clear whether it was a cracker or a bomb that exploded. Rema, wife of Anilkumar, told the police that she had kept some crackers in the alimirah and she and children were waiting for Anilkumar to burst them.“She told us that she got the crackers from one Gudskad Sabu on the way back from the Vinayaka Nagar Ganapathi Temple. The blast created a loud noise as the explosives were kept in an iron almirah. There is no big damage to the house. The neighbours removed the thatched roof when they noticed smoke coming out of the house,” the Valiyathura police said.However, the police do not rule out the chance of Anilkumar keeping explosives at his house as he had been charge-sheeted once.“Earlier, Anilkumar was an accused in several cases relating to skirmishes,” police said.
