CHENNAI: BJP leader L K Advani on Saturday called up Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and thanked her for foiling a plot to bump him off during his Jan Chetana Yatra near Madurai.In a statement here, the CM said Selvaraj hailing from Alampatti village found the pipe bomb kept under a causeway across Kavandan river on Tirumangalam-Rajapalayam Road. The message was conveyed to the police through AIADMK councillor Selvam, following which the plot was crushed. Jayalalithaa conveyed her appreciation to Selvaraj, Selvam and the police personnel who had rushed to the spot and averted the tragedy. “A conspiracy has been foiled by the timely detection of the bomb. This gives me relief,” Jayalalithaa said and added that she had directed the police to bring to the book the culprits involved in this crime soon.Earlier in the day, speaking at Thiruvananthapuram, Advani hailed the Tamil Nadu police for recovering the bomb and called for a thorough probe to nab those behind the incident. Advani, who is on Z Plus security, was to have travelled through Alampatti to reach Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district to address a public meeting, but took a diversion after the recovery of the pipe bomb.
