Senior BJP leader Raghuvar Das on Wednesday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to curb rampant pilferage and illegal mining of coal, which he alleged led acute power crisis in the state.
In a letter to Modi, Das, the two-time state unit president of BJP, demanded a high-level enquiry into the illegal mining and pilferage of coal.
Referring to the illegal mining of minerals including coal, Das said the prevailing situation under Hemant Soren-led coalition government was similar to the previous regime, when Congress misused former Chief Minister Madhu Koda to loot precious minerals of the state.
Congress was a major ally in the Soren-headed government. He said coal theft and illegal mining was a burning issue, which was causing huge financial loss not only to Jharkhand but the nation.
He further alleged that the loot of minerals was taking place in connivance of political party leaders, police and administrative officials.
Das on Wednesday participated in a demonstration organised by the East Singhbhum District Committee of the party in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in protest against the acute power and water crisis, and deteriorating law and order situation of the state.
BJP MP Vidyut Baran Mahato, MLA Menka Sardar and Amarpreet Singh Kale, Jharkhand state unit spokesman, also participated in the demonstration.
