ANANTAPUR: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana had a bitter experience on the first day of his three-day visit to the district on Monday. Some people threw slippers at him while he was addressing a public meeting at Kadiri bus stand.Later, they were identified as YSR Congress Party activists.Even as the PCC chief was coming to terms with the bitter experience, his convoy was obstructed by a group of women at Mudigubba demanding solution to the drinking water problem in the village. The PCC president pacified the women by promising to get the drinking water problem solved.Later, the district Congress leaders ensured that the PCC chief’s convoy was not obstructed.Group politics in the Congress had come to the fore during the PCC chief’s visit as Congress leaders vied with one another to show their strength to him.Earlier, Satyanarayana was received by senior Congress leader and former minister JC Diwakar Reddy at Kodikonda check post on his arrival from Bangalore.Diwakar’s followers accompanied the PCC chief’s convoy in 300 vehicles.Diwakar’s brother JC Prabhakar Reddy joined the PCC chief’s convoy even before it reached Kodikonda check post.Prabhakar who has been aspiring to become the DCC president, has made every effort to impress the PCC chief during his visit to Anantapur.Ministers N Raghuveera Reddy, S Sailajanath, M Venkataramana, Anantapur MP A Venkatarami Reddy, MLA Madhusudhan Gupta and other leaders were among those who received the PCC chief. The two rival groups in the district had refrained from revealing their differences before the PCC chief.Huge flexi boards and banners were erected by the local Congress leaders throughout the route welcoming the PCC president. There was an unprecedented security for the PCC chief during his visit. He addressed public meetings at Kodikonda check post, Gorantla, Husnabad crossroads, Odicheruvu, Kadiri, Mudigubba and Battalapalle. The turnout at Satyanarayana’s public meetings was less than expected.Addressing the meetings, the PCC chief said the TDP had lost polls twice because of its anti-people policies. He said it was TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu who encouraged corruption.Criticising YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the PCC chief said the Kadapa MP wanted to succeed his father as the chief minister after YSR’s tragic demise though it was not possible in a democracy.Reiterating the Congress government’s commitment to the welfare of the poor and downtrodden, he said the Kiran Kumar Reddy government was continuing all the development schemes initiated by YSR.He said chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy initiated several new schemes like Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, Indira Jala Prabha and Rs 1-akg subsidised rice scheme.
