Big B's smashing re-entry on small screen
The first episode of 'KBC', which coincided with Big B's birthday has managed to grab more eye balls than any other show

The sonorous voice of Amitabh Bachchan once again rang out loud and clear as the curtains went up on the first episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 4 on Sony Entertainment Television. Not just restricting his role as a quiz master, the Big B went a step ahead enquiring about the contestant’s family backgrounds and their efforts over the years trying to increase their general knowledge to become a part of this mega experience.

Since the first episode was telecast on Bachchan’s birthday, the organisers had made sure that both he and the audience enjoy the experience thoroughly. Bachchan himself sang his rendition of Khaike Paan Banaras Wala while several dancers took to the stage, performing to the tune. Several of his most iconic dialogues were also played out as past of the special features for the first episode.

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt also made a guest appearance as he appeared on the dias to give one of the contestants a jadoo ki jhappi. All this was followed by the audience singing Happy Birthday for Bachchan, as he beamed at everyone.

While trying to answer the questions meted out by Bachchan, the contestants on the hot seat could make use of an entirely new option of being able to consult an experts’ panel for the day. Also, for one of the many questions, the contestant was allowed two attempts to say the right answer. This added feature is called Double Dip.

The one-and-half-hour long episode of the first episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati last night, is said to have recorded an average TRP (Television Rating Point (TRP) of 5 per cent, according to Audience measurement and analytics (aMap). It is the highest rating in the time band of 9 pm-10.30 pm on top general entertainment channels.

Salman Khan’s show Bigg Boss 4 on Colors shown at the same time, got the second highest rating with 3.4 percent rating last night.

The expert panel on KBC included cricket commentator Charu Sharma. A contestant managed to take home a booty of Rs. 3,20,000.

In this fourth season of KBC, there have been several changes made to make it more entertaining. The biggest attraction of course, is that the final prize money has been upped from one crore to five crores. Also, there is a set time limit in which the contestants have to answer the questions. A timer called ‘Ghadiyal babu’ is introduced in the show. The expert panel will have different experts of different fields every day. One new thing that is being introduced is the involvement of celebrities as part of a team of five members. The celebrities can come along with their family members, colleagues or friends and play the game together.”

Making of the Opening Video for KBC

According to Shiamak Davar, the director of the opening music video, the sequence was a tribute to Bachchan’s best work, something never seen or experienced before. Apparently, Big B was so excited about the opening song that he jammed with composers Vishal-Shekhar till the wee hours of the morning to complete it.

The show started with Amitabh Bachchan making a grand entry from a 24 feet-tall structure in the form of an ‘A’ and narrating his father’s poetry. The entire ambience was white with Shiamak’s dancers holding white candles. Posters of Bachchan’s famous films were put all around the studio. These posters were specially sourced from all over the city over a single night. The grand set was constructed by Nitin Desai at Yash Raj Studio.
