New Delhi: Mayor of Belgaum, Vijay More is in Mumbai to visit the state's Chief Minister, Vilas Rao Deshmukh.
Following Karnataka government's decision to dissolve Belgaum's City Corporation on Tuesday, More is in Mumbai to talk over the issue.
The Belgaum corporation was dissolved following its decision to merge Marathi speaking areas of the district with Maharashtra.
Opposing Deshmukh's interference in the Belgaum tussle, Karnataka?s Law and Parliamentary Minister, HK Patil says, "I don't know how Vilas Rao Deshmukh arrived at that conclusion. He does not know the ground realities and I urge him to withdraw the letter."
In the 60s, the Centre had appointed the Mahajan Commission to sort the matter. The committee proposed that the Marathi-speaking areas like Sholapur be with Maharashtra and Belgaum with Karnataka. But, there's never been accord on that.
