BANGALORE: After the High Court took the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to task for its failure to ensure safety in the high rise buildings, the Palike will now coordinate with the Fire Department to carry out inspections in buildings.
The court had recently taken the BBMP to task for not being able to provide a satisfactory answer to the query on their action plan. Following the Carlton Towers fire incident that killed nine people, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed to seek the action plan to prevent any such untoward incidents in the future. The Palike which conducted a meeting on the issue has now decided that they would form six teams, a joint effort, comprising the Town Planning officials and fire safety officials, to present a report within the next three days. The teams would have to draft an action plan and later submit an affidavit to the Court. They would also have to inspect a minimum of 100 buildings and then submit a report.
