Bandh disrupts life in Port Town

PARADIP :Normal life was affected in the port town and Kujang on Friday due to a bandh called by locals demanding judicial probe into last month’s cracker explosion which killed four people.The bandh called by Millita Gana Sangthan (MGS) protesting non-payment of compensation to the victims’ kin even a month after the incident was spontaneous in Paradip, Kujang and Erasama. Vehicular movement was disrupted and shops and business establishments remained shut and road communication between Paradip and Cuttack remained paralysed while train services to and from the port town were affected.The Sangha members, along with locals, picketed and blocked the Cuttack-Paradip State Highway and Chandikhole-Paradip NH by burning tyres.SP S Devdatta Singh said no untoward incident has been reported in these areas. The Sangha leaders have threatened to intensify stir if their demands,  including judicial probe into the cracker explosion at Kujang and compensation to the next of the kin of each deceased in the explosion and injured persons is paid.
