Bangalore: The Bangalore city police has clarified that the attack on the Manipuri boy was not a racial attack but was just a scuffle. Vikas Kumar Vikas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North East district, Bangalore said that the culprit's attacked the boys in a fit of rage as they were drunk.
"It was not a racial attack. It happened due to miscommunication and lack of knowledge of each others language. The accused have no connection with any organization," said the DCP.
The Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi has said that action will be taken against the accused for exhibiting such rowdy behaviour.
Earlier on Wednesday, T Michael Lamjathang Haokip, the President of Tharu Students' Association claimed that he was subjected to a racist attack by a mob who misbehaved with him because he ignored their demand to speak in Kannada.
One of Michael's friend also said,"We are Indians, but in South Indian when we come, our face is different. So the localities do not consider us as Indians. They dominate over us because of our face. This is not the first incident. This has happened earlier as well." Two other members of the association, Ngamkholen Haokip, 28, and Rocky Kipgen, 25, who were with Michael when he was attacked escaped with minor injuries.
Even as the terrified student tried to make an escape and reach the Kothanur police station, the group of men followed him. But luckily a police van reached the spot and the men were taken into custody.
