KOCHI: Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command Vice-Admiral K N Sushil inaugurated the annual day celebrations of the Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Thrikkakara. In his address, he highlighted the efforts made by the employees of NPOL in enhancing the self-reliance in sonar systems. NPOL has produced a large number of systems that have been accepted and deployed by the users, he pointed out.Speaking on the occasion, NPOL director S Anantha Narayanan emphasised on the need to stay ahead in technology and the need to enlarge the product and customer base. He also stressed on the need to restrategise system development plans to meet the challenges posed by the new defence procurement policies.Vice Admiral Sushil presented awards to officers and staff for excellent performance in various activities. The DRDO laboratory scientist of the year award was conferred on M Suresh and O R Nandagopan.
