THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally, has bagged the first prize comprising of Degree C Award of Rs 1 lakh for its project - ‘Low-cost pepper separator’ at Tech Top-2011 that was held at Technopark. The second prize comprising of Rs 50,000 sponsored by Intel has been won by MSS’s CET, Jalna, Maharashtra for the project ‘Seeding machine’ and the third prize of Rs 30,000 sponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) has been given to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam, for its project ‘Density and priority- based traffic control system using computer vision in arm processor.’This year, three consolation prizes of Rs 20,000 each were given to St Joseph’s College of Engineering, Jeppiar Nagar, Tamil Nadu, for its ‘Turbo-charger in petrol engine’, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering for their ‘Helioped project’ and Sahrudaya College of Engineering and Technology for its ‘Multifunctional bedcare unit for bedsore patients.’ The consolation prizes were sponsored by Intel, PTC and KSCTE.K Kesavasamy, global head, Academic Interface Programme and head, Corporate Learning Centre, Tata Consultancy Services, Thiruvananthapuram, was the chief guest at the award ceremony held at Technopark as part of the concluding ceremony of Tech Top-2011.The sixth edition of the two-day event was held from Friday. Eighteen colleges contested for the coveted recognition and showcased their prototypes at the exhibition. V K Damodaran, Director General, INGCORE & UNIDO International Energy Consultant, said: “Judging the 18 prototypes presented was very challenging for the jury because all the projects exhibited here were very interesting. All the projects exhibited were equally good.”The projects selected after the final screening shall be eligible for incubation support from Technopark Technology Business Incubation Centre (T-TBI), where an opportunity is given to convert innovative ideas into a commercial venture benefiting society.K C Chandrashekharan Nair, CFO, Technopark & Secretary & Registrar, T-TBI, welcomed the gathering.  A TechQuiz was also conducted for school students as part of Tech Top at Technopark. Students from St Mary’s HSS Pattom won the first prize. Students from Loyola ICSE School, Sreekariyam won the second prize and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom won the third prize of cash prizes worth Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The prizes were sponsored by Degree Controls Inc.
