BANGALORE: A 55-year-old woman, depressed due to health problems, allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself on fire at Gandhi Park in Vijayanagar police station limits on Wednesday morning.Mahalakshmi, who was working as a stenographer in the department of industries and commerce, is the woman who attempted suicide. She has been admitted to Victoria Hospital with 90 per cent burn injuries and it is said that the chances of her survival are very slim.According to the police, the woman was suffering from severe muscle pull and other health problems. Though she had undergone many tests, the disease was not identified and no treatment succeeded in healing her problems. She was depressed over these issues and had also told her husband and children that it was very difficult for her to live with these problems and would like to end her life.“The woman used to go for morning walk to Gandhi Park and even on Wednesday morning, she left home as usual. It seems she had purchased two litres of petrol and kept it at home without bringing it to the notice of her family members. While leaving for park, she carried the petrol and she poured it and set herself on fire at the park. Some people who noticed her on fire shifted her to hospital,” the police said.
