PUDUCHERRY: Blaming the administration for failing to provide assistance after the devastating cyclone, AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan on Saturday said that the State government should immediately sanction  Rs 20,000 each as interim relief to the affected people.Addressing a press conference, he said the administration failed to take any precautionary measures despite an early warning about the cyclone. Anbazhagan said that the Rangasamy government was still to wake up from their slumber and provide effective relief. Even food packets were not supplied properly to the people who bore the brunt of the cyclone, he added. He said the ministers did not bother to visit the affected places and some top officials declined to visit the areas and extend help to the people. He urged the government to provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to families who lost their kin. So far, according to official estimates, eight people have been killed in the cyclone.Anbazhagan said that the damages may be around around Rs 1 thousand crores and asked Chief Minister Rangasamy to approach the central government to get funds for the State which is reeling under a financial crunch.
