BANGALORE: Air Force Institute of Dental Sciences (AFIDS), Bangalore, a tertiary specialist dental health care facility and para dental training establishment has been accredited and awarded the ‘Mark of Excellence’ by National Accreditation Board for Health Care Providers, a subsidiary of Quality Council of India (QCI), for quality of care and patient safety.Air Marshal Rajinder Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, Indian Air Force, Bangalore, handed over the certificate of accreditation to Air Commodore H K Thombre, Commandant of the institute. The officials stated that this was a unique distinction, being the first and only accredited health care provider in the armed forces and second dental facility in the entire nation.They added that the centre offers general and special dental facilities including prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery to entitled serving and retired armed forces personnel. They said that it was also the tertiary care referral centre for specialist dental services for defence units across entire south India. The institute also imparts in-house training to Medical Assistants of the Air Force in various para dental diploma courses including dental technician, dental hygienist and dental operating room assistance, apart from offering a host of other services, they added.
