Mumbai: Aamir Khan has just joined Twitter since yesterday and has already managed to get about 70,000 plus followers. Ask him about it and he says bashfully, “It's Amitji who wanted me to join Twitter. So, I have sent my first Twitter message to him. I am a big fan of his and I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t follow him,” he said with a smile.
Aamir Khan unveiled the first look of Peepli Live yesterday to the media. The actor thinks the movie, which mainly stars unknown actors, is not a risk as he doesn’t think commercially before deciding to produce a film.
“You might have noticed that I have always made movies that appealed to me personally and never thought if they would run in the theatres or not. I think one needs to be convinced of the film, before anything else,” he said.
“I trusted Anusha (Rizvi) after I read her script and also she showed me some things that she had shot,” Aamir says when asked about how he could risk a debut director for his production.
The trailer showcases the movie, Peepli Live as a comic take on the farmer suicides. The movie, set in a rural backdrop, talks about how one farmer’s life changes when he announces that he might commit suicide.
“I learnt so much during the making of this film,” says Aamir. “There is such a huge divide between urban India and rural India that we don’t even understand certain terms that they use. But now I know a lot of them,” says Aamir.
There were two trailers shown to the media. While the first was about the movie, the second was more entertaining, wherein a TV journalist makes fun of Aamir Khan as a producer. The journalist says, “Aamir paagal hogaya hai, kuch bhi banaata hai. Roz roz Lagaan toh nahin banti”.
Talking about this special promo, Aamir says, “I thought we are making fun of people and situations in the film, why not start with making fun of myself?”
This is the first ever time that someone has attempted a trailer of this kind.
Produced by Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao, Peepli Live has some actors fresh from Habib Tanvir’s troupe. “Habib Tanvir worked with people belonging to villages too. These are seasoned actors, only they haven’t been seen on screen,” explains Aamir.
Apart from that, Aamir also said that the movie stresses on the fact that human lives are cheap in this country.
The writer, director of the film, Anusha Rizvi was conspicuous by her absence at the event. It is said that the Delhi-based former journalist decided to skip the event as her mother has been hospitalised.
Peepli Live is releasing on August 13.
