HYDERABAD: If it has been some time since you applied for the Aadhaar or Unique Identification Cards and have still not received it by post, better pay a visit to your area post office as it may lying there. There are almost 5.5 lakh undelivered Aadhaar card posts lying in post offices in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.Till now, Seethaphalmandi post office has received about 75,700 Aadhaar card posts to be delivered to residents in the area. “But almost half of them are lying there as we do not have sufficient postmen to deliver all of them fast, said Seethaphalmandi sub-post master V Agustin. The burden of the work is five times more than normal now with the delivery of Aadhaar cards upon us, she said.“There are 8 postmen in our office and they can deliver upto 3,000 mails in a day.But we are receiving about 6,000 Aadhaar cards to deliver. We need more staff to deliver them,” Agustin adds.A Sathyanarayana, head postmaster of Secunderabad division said that there are 110 post offices in Secunderabad division. Every post office receives more than 5,000 posts to deliver everyday but all of them have only five to eight postmen. “With such less staff, it impossible to deliver 5,000 posts. We even hire people from outside and short duty postmen to deliver them but are unable to do so,” he said.Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts are leading in Aadhaar Cards registration in the country. But the high number of registration does not have concomitant delivery infrastructure.K Vittal, post master of Musheerabad post office says, “I start distributing Aadhaar Card posts to residents every day from 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. and am able to distribute 300 to 350 per day.But I am asked to distribute 500 each day. The distribution has become a huge problem for me. Sometimes, posts come with wrong names or address and we have to take them back. We keep it at the office for a week and then send it back.We cannot deliver them in case nobody is present in the houses as we have to collect their signatures after delivering them the cards.Such cards are also kept with us for a week.” Meanwhile, many people who applied for the Aadhaar Cards are calling up the Civil Supply Office and sending complaints about not receiving them. Some applicants who had applied six months ago are even trying to re-register their names.“Government should employ more staff at post offices at least for the time till Aadhaar cards are being issued.Otherwise, many of the cards will remain in post off i c e s i t s e l f , ” s a y s Sathyanarayana. He adds that the two districts need about 300 more postmen to distribute the undelivered Aadhaar cards soon.
