KOCHI: La Trobe University, Australia offers opportunity for Indian Nurses to practice in Australia. The Faculty of Health Sciences of La Trobe University runs an Initial Registration for Overseas Nurses  (IRON) Program. The Program is for the Nurses who are qualified and registered to practise in their own country, seeking to register and practise in Australia. It provides an introduction to nursing in Australia and a supported transition into the professional context and clinical setting. The program duration is 13 weeks including three weeks of theory and 10 weeks of clinical practice. Clinical practice will be in  non-acute (40 hours) and acute medical/surgical environment (up to 360 hours). The fee for the program is AUD$ 9,900. Participants who successfully complete the program will be qualified as Registered Nurse, as defined by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC). Those interested can apply NMBA /AHPRA to get approval to undertake the course. Once NMBA/AHPRA approves the application to undertake the IRON program and pre-approval for registration, an application is made to the University.  Details are available at www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/forms.aspx.
