KOCHI: It is presumed that mothers have a pivotal role in shaping their ward’s character, behaviour and culture. However, they seldom get recognition for their service both inside and outside the family circle. A CBSE school in Kochi has complimented the unsung heroines in a unique way.The Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, conducted a workshop exclusively for women parents in the school. Those who attended included not only mothers but grand mothers and aunts also. A workshop on the ‘Role of mothers in the transition of children,’ was led by human resources and motivational trainer Vijay Menon.“Usually mothers have more affinity to their children than fathers. Especially girls are close to mothers than to anyone else in the family. Mothers can influence their character in a big way”.“The present generation children are obsessed with whatever they want. The parents do not perturb their children in a nuclear family. The parents sacrifice to any extent to satiate their wards desires. It makes a few to deviate to unsolicited ways”, he opined. Mothers have shown courage to fight against adversities and survive. But they are neglected sects in our society. Their services seldom get recognition. Mothers living in adversities maintain positive attitudes and guide their children to a better future. Vijay Menon narrated several incidents to prove this fact.Children should be aware of the pains and difficulties in real life. They should not be pampered beyond a limit. The children should be brought to old-age homes, special schools and palliative clinics to know the ‘other side of the world’. By doing so, the pampered children will understand the privileges enjoyed by them. They become compassionate and humane to their brethren. In today’s materialistic world it is high time we learnt to understand the sufferings of the down-trodden.Vijay Menon is a visiting faculty member in IAS Academy, IIMs and various management institutes all over India.School principal S Sunitha presided. Teachers K Pushpa welcomed and Bindu J proposed a vote of thanks. Around 200 women parents attended the workshop. The workshop made special reference to the charity works undertaken by the Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya(BVV) School with regard to the character formation of the youth brigade.
