Srinagar: Two released terrorists were arrested from Handwara region in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, apparently in connection with the July 11 train blasts in Mumbai.
The arrest of Ghulam Mohammad from Kupwara and Abdul Rashid from Handwara areas of Kupwara district followed the disclosure made by Pakistan-backed Al-badr outfit commander Tohfeen Akmal Hasmi captured in connection with the Mumbai blasts.
However, the sources said the links of Ghulam Mohd and Rashid with the Mumbai blasts are yet to be established.
A three-member special police team from Mumbai reached Srinagar to interrogate Hasmi in connection with July 11 blasts in Mumbai, sources said.
Hasmi, a self -styled division comnmander of Al-badr outfit who had served Pakistan army prior to becoming a terrorist, had revealed during questioning that he had information that Lashkar-e-Toiba was planning serial blasts in Mumbai which claimed 190 lives and rendered 700 others injured.
Hasmi was arrested by troops in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on August 22.
Troops observed a person moving in suspicious circumstances in the Nandmarg forest, 70 kms from Srinagar.
On seeing the troops, he started running but and was chased by the troops and overpowered. No arms were recovered from him.
