THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 64th Infantry Day was celebrated on Thursday at Pangode Military Station. Col Rajesh Mehta, Commanding Officer, Gurkha Regiment, laid a wreath on behalf of the Station Commander at the War Memorial in honour of brave soldiers.  Retired Army Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Jawans also paid homage at the War Memorial.  Lt Col Arvind Kumar, Station Staff Officer, was also present on the occasion. The function began with ‘Salami Shastra’ saluting the martyrs followed by ‘Shoka Shastra.’   A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect. The Army band played the ‘Last Post.’   October 27 marks the Indian Army’s heroic operation to protect Jammu & Kashmir from incursion by armed tribesman from Pakistan on October 21-22 in 1947.  The day also reiterates the primacy of Indian Army’s battle-hardened infantry divisions.
