40,000 crore project planned to strengthen rural power supply: Union Cabinet
The Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, is aimed at ensuring eight hours of quality power supply to agricultural consumers.

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved schemes to ensure connectivity to all households. It has approved an 40,000 crore plan to strengthen rural power supply.

The Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, is aimed at ensuring eight hours of quality power supply to agricultural consumers and 24-hour electricity to rural households. Cabinet has also approved a 30,000 crore Integrated Power Development Scheme to strengthen electricity transmission and distribution in towns.

The United Progressive Alliance's (UPA) Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana which aimed at creating rural electricity infrastructure and completing household electrification has now been replaced with these schemes.
