Three cases of murder were reported in the city over the weekend. In the first incident, a 43-year-old mentally ill woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her cousin to death at Ennore on Sunday.
S Fathima Beevi (43), the mentally ill woman from Ennore, allegedly stabbed Beer Fathima (50) of Gummidipoondi, who had come to attend the wedding of the former’s daughter Jamila Banu. Police sources said the incident happened after Beevi was sent back home along with Beer Fathima as she suddenly started screaming in the wedding hall.After reaching home, Beevi became violent and stabbed her cousin with a knife, killing her. She then left her body outside and locked herself up in the house. The police, who reached the spot after being informed by neighbours, said that Beevi said she ‘heard’ somebody ordering her to kill the woman. Beevi has been undergoing treatment for her mental illness for the past two decades.
In the second case, a labourer from Odisha was found murdered at Pallikaranai while in the third, a painter was stabbed to death by his friend in a drunken brawl at Porur. Police said that on Sunday morning, residents of Babu Nagar in Medavakkam were shocked to find Narasimhan (25) of Odisha, a labourer, lying in a pool of blood at the construction site where he worked. They immediately alerted Pallikaranai police who recovered the body and sent it to the Chromepet GH for post mortem. Police said the labourer, who was hired by mason Mani of Jaladianpet for construction work in one Duraikannu’s house, had sustained severe injuries to his head and face.
In the incident at Porur, 21-year-old painter Mohanasundaram was stabbed to death allegedly by his friend Balu, during a drunken brawl near Bajanai Koil Street in Porur. Balu was later arrested.
Police said Satish, Balu and Mohanasundaram, all painters, had a round of drinks at a liquor shop after getting their salary on Saturday. They then went to an eatery on Bajanai Koil Street for dinner.
During dinner, police said, Balu and Satish picked up an argument and came to blows. Mohanasundaram intervened and whisked Balu away while Satish left the spot. Balu then picked up a fight with Mohanasundaram for intervening and, after a heated exchange, stabbed Mohanasundram with a knife.
