Chennai: Police here have arrested two managers of financier Anbuchezhian’s company Gopuram Films Private Limited in connection with producer Ashok Kumar's suicide.
Murugankumar and Saadiq were arrested under the Prevention of Loan Sharks Act. Anbuchezhian is still on the run.
Meanwhile, Anbuchezhian moved the Madras High Court on Tuesday night for anticipatory bail.
In his plea, he claimed that it was Kumar's cousin, director Sasikumar, who had taken loans from him, adding that the suicide note was planted. He said he is innocent and was being falsely implicated in the case
Kumar committed suicide on November 21 and had blamed the film financier for the extreme step in his suicide note. He accused Anbuchezhian of charging exorbitant interest on loans given to his production company.
"The most sinful act I committed was to borrow loan from Anbuchezhian. He charged more than the interest rates over the last seven years. However, over the last six months, Anbuchezhian insulted and humiliated me. He sent his people home to threaten elders and women in my family," the suicide note said.
"Don't think I'm a coward or a selfish person. I had only two options. One was to kill and the other was to commit suicide. If I had to kill, the deceased’s family will have to suffer. So, I chose the latter," it added.
The financier purportedly claimed to have political clout and in the police circles and the film fraternity.
The Tamil film industry has so far been divided in its response to the case. While some claim Anbuchezhian has humiliated and insulted a few directors before, many including film producer and distributer Kalaipuli S Thanu have come out in support.
