New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Abdul Razak Memon convicted for the 1993 Mumbai blasts. The court granted him an interim bail on the grounds of him suffering from schizophrenia.
After going through Yusuf's medical report placed before it by the CBI, a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrisnan directed that he be released on bail till July 14.
The court said that it would review Yusuf's bail before extending it further.
Yusuf was convicted of abetment and conspiracy and given life imprisonment by the TADA court. Yusuf was also found guilty for allowing his flat to be used for conspiracy meetings.
The Supreme Court had earlier rejected his bail plea in connection with the case.
However, the apex court had also ordered setting up of a medical board to assess Yusuf's mental health.
He was also spared the death penalty and awarded a life term on health grounds, as he is a known schizophrenic, needing constant medical attention.
