RAMANATHAPURAM: Tension prevailed at Pottakottai village near Thiruvadanai on Monday after a 17-year-old girl was burnt alive. The incident was a fallout of a rivalry between two families from two different villages in the area, police said.Pradeep of Pottakottai fell in love with a girl from Keelkudi. However, the girl’s parents objected to this and elders from the two families persuaded them to give up their relationship.In the meantime, it is alleged, the girl’s relative, one Bharathiraja, attacked Pradeep when he was walking along the road at Keelkottai. Pradeep informed about the incident to his brother Senkathir of Coimbatore, who rushed to the village.Then, Senkathir had a verbal altercation with Bharathiraja during a temple festival at Anjukottai and both were pacified by the villagers. However, on Sunday around midnight, Bharathiraja and his wife Suresh Rani stormed into Pradeep’s house and poured kerosene on his sister Yogapriya and set her ablaze while she was sleeping. Yogapriya, who sustained third-degree burns, succumbed at Ramnad Government Headquarters Hospital on Monday.Man Held for Inciting Wife to Commit Suicide Erode: The police on Monday arrested Rajesh (35) of Surampatti for allegedly inciting his wife to commit suicide along with their four-year-old son. On Sunday, neighbours found thick smoke emanating from Rajesh’s house at Marappa Gundar Street and informed police and fire service officials. When the police and firemen arrived at the spot, they found the woman Geetha and her son Arunyan dead with burns.
