New Delhi: Records being broken in golf are a novelty. And at 12 years of age, Alexis Thomson is going to create her own at this year's US Open.
When Annika Sorenstam and World No. 1 Lorena Ochoa tee off at the US Open on Thursday, they will have 12-year-old Alexis Thompson for company. Alexis will become the youngest to make her debut on the greens.
"I'm just out here playing golf. It's great that I made it and I'm having an awesome experience already so I'm just out here to play golf," an elated Thompson says.
The 12-year-old will compete as an Amateur and has the full support of her parents. Her father Scott Thomson is coaching and carrying the set, while her mother Judy cheers her on from the sidelines.
"I'm very proud of her. She's accomplished a lot this year and everything that she does, seems like every time she accomplishes on another level. It just amazes us and we're just like 'wow'. It's amazing," her mother says.
Here's wishing Alexis Thompson luck in what is destined to be a long and rewarding career.
