- Netflix's Tudum is free with a Netflix subscription.
- Tudum.co is a scam.
- You need to call the number on your tudum.co statement to cancel, or call and dispute the charges with your bank or credit card company.
Tudum vs Tudum.co
Is it Netflix-related or not? Tudum, in conjunction with Netflix, will 'never' ask for payment information as long as you have a Netflix account. It's a free website that lists all of Netflix's original movies and TV Shows.
Tudumco scam. Many Apple and Google Play users report downloading different apps (one was a parking app, one was a hijacked Smart Switch from the Play Store, and another offered free stickers) and ending up on Tudum.co where they logged in, entered their payment information for "verification purposes" and ended up with a Tudum.co subscription.
Canceling via Phone
Call the number on your bill. It might be 1-888-920-8550, 1-844-252-8752 or 833-942-2826, but call any number that appears on your statement. Since this is a scam, people have reported that canceling the normal ways (like through the App Store or Google Play Store) aren't available. If no number works, call your bank or credit card company bank for a refund or to cancel the charges. Prevent more charges by blocking your card or closing it.
Report It
Report it online. If you are a US resident, file a complaint at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov, if you are from UK, report it at https://actionfraud.police.uk.
Call to report the fraud. Many agencies will allow you to report a scam over the phone. You can find the agency's phone number online or by asking someone with access to the internet. When you file a complaint over the phone, you will give the agency information very similar to what you would give them using the internet.
File a report with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB is a resource that consumers use to look up common scams and scams that have happened recently. When you file a report with the BBB Scam Tracker, you will not receive an individual response. The Scam Tracker allows you to tell your story, so others might be able to avoid the trap you fell into. To file a Scam Tracker Report, visit the BBB's Scam Tracker website. They will ask you for the following information: Information about the scammer (e.g., the business's name, the person's name, their phone number, their website) Information about the scam (e.g., how you were contacted, what was being asked for, what did they say happened, whether you lost money) Your personal information (e.g., your age, where you live, your name) Attachments of things you received from the scammer
Tips to Avoid Scams
Avoid downloading apps that are out-of-date and from unknown parties. Many of the apps downloaded that are to blame for this scam haven't been updated in a while and, while they had the same app name, the developer's name is different. Smart Switch was one example, and there are plenty of apps on the Google Play Store with that name. To avoid falling prey to this scam, only download recently updated apps offered by the companies that you trust.
Don't give out your payment info to unknown sources. Even if a known source, like Smart Switch, opens a website (outside of the app) and asks for your payment information, that's a red flag. A reliable service doesn't swap you out of the app nor does it ask for payment information for a free service (like showing parking spots or transferring phone data).
Search online for the service you'd like to use. If you haven't heard of it, search online and see what everyone else is saying about it. A quick Google search shows that "tudum.co" is a scam.
Read the fine print. Some shady companies use shady practices, like including important information in tiny text. For example, a checkbox is checked next to a tiny print that allows tudum.co to charge you a subscription fee, which many users do not see.
Read cancellation policies. A lot of free trials will automatically turn into large monthly charges, and some trials will not even allow you to cancel for a certain period of time. Before you accept a free trial, make sure you look over the company's cancellation policy. A lot of companies, like tudum.co, will allow you to cancel at any time. However, these companies might continue to charge you until you dispute the charges with your bank.
