Todd Phillips’ directorial prowess and Joaquin Phoenix’s stellar performance in Joker made the film a cinematic masterpiece. Released in the theaters in 2019, the crime thriller documented the rise of DC’s dreaded and psychopathic killer Arthur Fleck aka Joker. The popularity surrounding the Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix collaboration has paved the way for the film’s sequel. Titled Joker: Folie à Deux, Phillips announced the second instalment in the making in June 2022. Now, with the festive spirit in mind, the director wished the masses a Merry Christmas by dropping a couple of pictures on Instagram, featuring Phoenix and Joker 2’s female lead Lady Gaga.
“Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year. Oct 2024. Joker 2” captioned Todd Phillips. The first snap captured Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, sporting a grim expression. In what can be made out from the pic, it seems that he is inside a cell, only his face visible through a narrow grid-like opening. The number E258 was carved upon the wooden bars. The following photograph gave a glimpse of singer-actress Lady Gaga. She will be seen as Harley Quinn in the upcoming film. Gaga was dressed in a pretty floral-printed ensemble, her hair tied in a bun. She gazed at Arthur Fleck with intense eyes. Fleck had white paint on his face with red blotches on his nose and mouth, resembling that of his iconic Joker character. He was also dressed in his signature red suit as shown in the previous films.

Movie enthusiasts were more than excited to come across the post and reacted to it. “Thank you so much, can’t wait for the trailer!” expressed one user. “Oh Wow. This was what I asked Santa for actually,” revealed another. “One of my most anticipated films of 2024,” chimed in a third individual. Others showed their appreciation by dropping multiple red heart emojis.
Joker: Folie à Deux is touted to be a musical that will revolve around Joker and Harley Quinn’s complicated romance in Arkham Asylum. As per Entertainment Weekly, Folie à Deux means “shared psychosis” which is speculated to exist between the two protagonists. The film will hit the silver screens on October 24, 2024.
Speaking of Joker, the film amassed over 1 billion dollars at the box office upon its release. It also earned 11 Oscar nominations with Joaquin Phoenix winning the Best Actor award and the film’s music composer Hildur Guonadottir bagging the Best Original Score award.
