The mahapanchayat also made several demands, which included an NIA probe into the attack on the VHP yatra in Nuh on July 31 and declaring Nuh a cow slaughter-free district

The Vishva Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Braj Mandal Yatra in Nuh district, which was disrupted due to communal violence in July, will resume on August 28, a ‘mahapanchayat’ organised by Hindu outfits and held at Pondri village in Haryana’s Palwal, decided on Sunday.

During the mahapanchayat, several demands were put forth, including the merger of Nuh district with the adjoining Palwal and Gurugram districts. Additionally, a request was made for a survey to assess the losses incurred by Hindu-owned shops and homes, with compensation to be provided accordingly.

The ‘Sarva Jatiye Mahapanchayat’ was attended by participants from Palwal, Gurugram and other nearby places. Permission for the mahapanchayat was given in Palwal, Deputy Superintendent of Police (headquarters), Palwal, Sandeep Mor said on Sunday. Palwal and Nuh are adjoining districts.

While permission was granted for only 500 attendees at the mahapanchayat, the actual gathering far surpassed this limit, according to a IANS report. Ahead of the event, the police had restricted access to outsiders entering the village and had also heightened security measures.

Originally slated to take place in Kira village of Nuh district, the mahapanchayat had to be relocated due to the prevailing law and order circumstances.

The mahapanchayat also raised several additional demands, including the initiation of an NIA probe into the assault on the VHP yatra in Nuh on July 31, as well as the designation of Nuh as a district free from cow slaughter.

Following an attack on the VHP procession by mobs on July 31, clashes erupted in Nuh, resulting in the deaths of six people, which included two home guards and a cleric. Gurugram also experienced sporadic instances of violence.

Arms for ‘Self Defence’

During the event, certain leaders suggested that Hindus residing in Nuh should be granted eased procedures for obtaining arms licenses for self-defense. Addressing the gathering, Acharya Azad Shastri of Haryana Gau Rakshak Dal encouraged the youth to “face FIRs without fear.” “We should immediately ensure getting licence of 100 rifles in Mewat,” he said.

Organized under the umbrella of ‘Sarv Hindu Samaj’, the mahapanchayat saw the participation of numerous Hindu organizations, including the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal. Leading the proceedings was Arun Jaildar, a prominent Khap leader.

VHP Yatra to Resume from Nuh on August 28

The decision was made to resume the yatra from Nalhar in Nuh, following a route that would encompass Firozpur Jhirka’s Jhir and Shingar temples within the district.

Khap leader Zaildar said the annual yatra, which had previously been left unfinished, must be concluded by August 28.

Permanent Deployment of RAF, Central Forces in Nuh

The gathering also called for a permanent deployment of Rapid Action Force and four central force battalions in Nuh. Additionally, it urged that the legal proceedings for cases involving people engaged in violence in Nuh be conducted outside the district and that the arrested accused be lodged in Gurugram or an alternate prison instead of Nuh.

The leaders also pressed for the expulsion of Rohingyas and any other foreign residents from Nuh and advocated for the establishment of legislation to enforce this demand.

Compensation for Nuh Violence

Furthermore, a demand was raised for the provision of Rs 1 crore compensation and a government job to the families of deceased Hindus who fell victim to the Nuh violence, along with Rs 50 lakh compensation for the injured individuals.

The gathering included prominent figures such as Bharat Bhushan, the state convener of Bajrang Dal; Anurag Kulshrestha, the social media head of VHP; Sanjay Singh, BJP’s Sohna MLA; Subhash Chowdhary, former Palwal MLA; Surender Arya, former district president of BJP in Nuh; as well as officials from VHP, Bajrang Dal, and various other Hindu organisations.
