FIFPro has announced the tragic death of Ukrainian footballers Vitalii Sapylo and Dmytro Martnenko as a result of Russia's military operation in Ukraine. Upcoming professional skier Yevhen Malyshev was also a fatality in combat while trying to stop the onslaught of the Russians.

FIFPro has announced the tragic death of Ukrainian footballers Vitalii Sapylo and Dmytro Martnenko as a result of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.

21-year-old Vitalii Sapylo, a youth team player in the ranks of Karpaty Lviv’s, was announced dead on Friday and confirmed by the team.

He had joined the army as a tank commander to defend his country against the advances of Russian soldiers.

Russian bombs also hit the home of Dmytro Martynenko, another footballer who played for FC Gostomel.

“May they both rest in peace.”

Upcoming professional skier Yevhen Malyshev was also a fatality in combat while trying to stop the onslaught of the Russians.

The 20-year-old, who was part of Ukraine’s junior team, temporarily hung up his skis two years ago to serve in the military,

The Ukrainian Biathlon Federation confirmed his tragic passing in a statement.

“We deeply sing to the homeland, to friends and family. Eternal memory by Yevhen Malyshev,” the federation said.

The world has been shocked by the passing of the youngsters and such incidents have dropped another reminder of the actual irreproachable toll a war would extract on individuals and nations alike.

The unprompted attack on Ukrainian soil by the Russians has united the bravehearts of the nation in an unprecedented manner. People from all walks of life have been pushed to the extent of taking up arms in an attempt to withstand the barrage of attacks their homeland is being subjected to.

A number of well-known athletes have joined the troops on the front line to defend their motherland.

Heavyweight boxer Wladimir Klitschko and his brother Vitali – the mayor of Kyiv – have joined the army, proudly saying: “I am Ukrainian, and I am a fighter.”

34-yer-old boxing legend Vasyl Lomachenko enlisted himself in the territorial army.

He was proud to share a snapshot of himself in the military outfit, sending out a warning sign to Russia that a multi-weight category champion was waiting for them at the line.
