London: Tottenham slipped into the bottom half of the Premier League by losing 2-1 to Stoke on Sunday, with a red card to full back Kyle Naughton capping a miserable game for the struggling home side.

Former Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic scored his first goal for Stoke with a brilliant individual effort in the fifth minute and Jon Walters doubled the visitors' lead in the 33rd, slotting home from Mame Biram Diouf's cross.

Nacer Chadli met Danny Rose's left-wing cross with a volley from a narrow angle to reduce Spurs' deficit in the 77th but they could not complete a comeback.

Tottenham have now lost four games at home in the league, all of them coming immediately after playing in the Europa League on Thursday nights.

"It was disappointing and frustrating. A very bad result," Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said. "In the next few days, we will try to find a solution and change our mentality."

Naughton was given a straight red card in the 85th for a foul on Victor Moses.

Stoke moved into the top half with their first away win since beating Manchester City in August.

"We had a game plan and executed it to the letter," Stoke manager Mark Hughes said. "We were always a threat, we had a good shape about us, when we had the ball we broke with pace and precision and scored two goals as a consequence."

Stoke lost defenders Marc Wilson (hamstring) and Phil Bardsley (groin) to injury.

England defender Leighton Baines converted a penalty in the 76th minute to give Everton a 1-1 draw at Sunderland.

Sebastian Larsson put the hosts ahead with a superb free kick at the Stadium of Light around 10 minutes earlier.

Baines scuffed his spot kick under Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, following Connor Wickham's challenge on Seamus Coleman.

Sunderland players and home fans among a crowd of 43,476 were incensed at referee Lee Mason's decision to award a penalty, although replays suggested they had little cause to be.

Everton's Gareth Barry left the field on a stretcher in the first half and was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg after being caught by Jordi Gomez.

Newcastle maintained their resurgent Premier League form with their fourth consecutive win, a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

The visitors opened the scoring late in the first half through Ayoze Perez, who converted Daryl Janmaat's cross from close range for his third goal in as many games.

Newcastle doubled the lead in the 62nd minute when Fabricio Coloccini headed in from another cross by Janmaat.

West Brom, who came into the game undefeated in three league games, enjoyed the bulk of possession in the second half but failed to convert that advantage into goals.

The result catapults Newcastle above West Brom and into the top half of the table after starting the season without a win in their first seven games.
