Madrid: Former Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano has taken the time to praise Cristiano Ronaldo, but added that Los Blancos are not dependent on the attacker.
The Portuguese has become the Santiago Bernabeu side's undisputed star player since joining in the summer of 2009, but Valdano feels the Spanish giants are still an excellent side without him.
"Ronaldo is capable of scoring two or three goals per game after moments of individual brilliance," Valdano was quoted as saying by Marca.
"However, the best thing about this Madrid is that they are still a great team if Ronaldo is not at his best.
"Their style of play is much more direct than Barcelona's. They don't give defences any time to regroup, and need only three passes to reach the opponents' goal. They have made a lot of progress since last season."
Real Madrid currently sit second in La Liga, having taken 22 points from nine encounters. They lock horns with Real Sociedad on Saturday evening.
