Kolkata: East Bengal might have taken a big step forward in their title run thanks to their home win against Dempo but the match on Sunday was marred with controversy. A few fans directed their ire on Dempo players at half-time when the team was heading to their dressing room as a stone hit Kalu Nnanna.
Goal.com caught up with Syed Rahim Nabi who despised the incident and asked his club's fans to be more mature.
"I heard that the Dempo team were not willing to come out for play in the second half as their player Kalu Nnanna got hurt due to some things thrown at him by East Bengal fans. This kind of behaviour by our fans is letting us down," opined East Bengal's very own Syed Rahim Nabi.
"We know that the fans are passionate but the people who cannot respect footballers can never be called a true football fan,"added Indian National team player.
Incidentally Kalu Nnanna has been at the receiving end when playing for Churchill Brothers against Mohun Bagan at the Barasat Stadium in the 2-2 draw in January 2010.
Meanwhile peaking about their chances of winning the I-League title, Nabi believes that his side have a great chance to do so.
"We are very happy that we won (against Dempo). We made a great comeback and I hope we continue our good form to go all the way."
With Gurwinder Singh and Nirmal Chhetri out of the next game against Salgaocar SC, will East Bengal have issues to contain the likes of Ryuiji Sueoka and Yusif Yakubu?
"Every player has to perform now as we are in a very crucial stage. Whoever shall come in their place will have to do the job,” signed off Nabi.
