Glasgow: Tuesday evening saw Rangers overcome Liverpool 1-0 at Ibrox in a glamour friendly, with Lee McCulloch grabbing the only goal of the game in the first half.

Danny Wilson and Charlie Adam made their first return to their former club, while Reds 'keeper Alex Doni was forced off with an injury after impressive display.

After a relatively slow start to the match that saw the Rangers fans grow frustrated with the referee, the hosts forced Liverpool shot-stopper Alexandre Doni into a decent stop as Steven Whittaker turned well on the edge of the box before shooting, but the Brazilian got down well to his left and conceded a corner.

However, the visitors lived to rue that corner as Lee McCulloch forced the ball into the net at the post even with a Liverpool defender located on the line.

Rangers almost doubled their advantage a matter of minutes later as Matt McKay connected well with Lee Wallace’s cross, but once again Doni was equal to the effort.

Soon after the break, referee Willie Collum was the centre of attention when Kyle Lafferty played the ball under Doni, reaching the goal-line, but the man in control of the match waved play on, not believing the ball had crossed the line.

It was Lafferty again who went close with just over 20 minutes to go as John Fleck played a clever ball through to the Ulsterman, but despite beating Martin Hansen in the Liverpool goal, he also beat the bar, putting his strike just over.

Late on there was to be a little more controversy as Liverpool felt they should have been awarded a penalty for a perceived foul on Andy Carroll, however referee Collum wasn't having any of it, with the England striker appearing to make the most of the challenge, and Rangers held on for the 1-0 win.
