Gerrard condemns Hillsborough disaster cover-up
Steven Gerrard says victims and survivors suffered not just on April 15, 1989 but for over two decades.

London: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has condemned the officials who "abused their position and power" to cover up the truth about the wrongdoing that led to the death of 96 fans at Hillsborough stadium 23 years ago.

Secret papers published on Wednesday showed that the police instructed officers to change statements to shift the blame onto fans after the tragedy at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Gerrard says "victims and survivors suffered not just on April 15, 1989 but for over two decades afterwards with the shameful slandering of their actions by people who abused their position and power."

The England midfielder's cousin Jon-Paul Gilhooley was the youngest fatality at age 10, and says "the pain and hurt will remain."
