London: Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson was involved in a clash with Kelly, his old foe Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish's daughter, on ITV during a post-match conference after the 1-1 draw at Benfica in Champions League on Wednesday.
The Scot made eight changes to his side for the game in Lisbon, with goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard making his Champions League debut, and the Dane impressed with a solid performance.
Ferguson was irritated with Kelly, 35, an anchor with ITV, when he was asked who would be in goal for the league game against Chelsea on Sunday.
"I don't know why you ask these questions, you're just looking for stupid little things," Ferguson snapped back.
The interview started going wrong when Kelly asked if the terrific display by Lindegaard had put David De Gea's place in jeopardy.
"David will play on Sunday. That was the understanding we had before the game and it doesn't change. Anyway, it proves we have two terrific keepers," Ferguson said.
The United manager also hailed his veteran striker Ryan Giggs, who scored a superb left-foot strike against Benfica - 17 years after his first Champions League goal.
Giggs netted twice in United's 4-2 win over IFK Gothenburg at Old Trafford in 1994 and Ferguson paid tribute to the 37-year-old's latest strike against the Portuguese club.
"It was a great goal from Ryan, very good. I felt in the early part of the match he perhaps sat too deep in midfield. But when he got in behind them, in their central midfield area, he was a real threat to them," Ferguson was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
"His goal came from exactly that. He got it by getting in behind their midfield. It was terrific quality," he said.
"I think once we scored we played well. I thought our possession in the first half was too cautious but once Ryan scored, I thought we played much better. In the second half, we had some opportunities."
Meanwhile, Giggs' teammate Patrice Evra said the Welshman thoroughly deserved to be called a legend, such is his longevity and desire to win.
He told Sky Sports: "We don't use that word legend for many players, but for him it's really easy to use that word."
"For me, he's the best player I ever played with."
"He's 37 years old, but he looks like he's never won anything because he is training hard in every training session and every game."
"The goal he scored, for me, is just normal because it's Ryan Giggs. If it was another player we'd say well done, but it's Ryan Giggs, for me, it's just normal. He's a legend."
