Chelsea’s search for a full-back has finally paid off with the club understood to be completing the signing of FC Basel’s Renato Veiga. The 20-year-old will sign for Chelsea, reportedly, for a fee of €14 million with no sell-on clause agreed between the two outfits. Veiga secured 26 appearances across all competitions for FC Basel last season. He scored two goals and added one assist for the Swiss side. As per an Athletic report, a medical has been scheduled in London with Veiga expected to sign a contract until 2032. Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano recently stated that the package for Veiga will be “worth €14/15m.”

Veiga’s versatility is expected to benefit Chelsea extensively. He can easily switch to positions like defensive midfield, center back and left back as well. Moreover, Chelsea’s newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca’s inverted full-back formation will certainly require a player as versatile as Veiga. The youngster rose through at Sporting Lisbon before being loaned out to German football club Augsburg last year. He represented Augsburg 13 times before making his switch to FC Basel.
Under Maresca, who was appointed as the new Chelsea head coach on an initial five-year contract, the Blues are expected to witness an action-packed summer transfer window. The Blues have already roped in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as their most expensive signing in the early phase of the summer transfer window.
“It is amazing to be sitting here as a Chelsea player. This is a club people grow up watching and hoping to one day play for, so it is a privilege to be here,” Dewsbury-Hall said, as per BBC.
At Chelsea, Dewsbury-Hall will reunite with Maresca, who had clinched the Championship title with Leicester City last season. Dewsbury-Hall arrives at Stamford Bridge for a deal worth £30 million from Leicester City. The Foxes academy graduate signed a six-year contract until 2030 with Chelsea at the age of 25.
