Paris Saint Germain are reportedly ready to battle the potential departure of Kylian Mbappe at the end of the season. The French forward is understood to leave PSG as a free agent during the upcoming summer transfer window when his current contract expires. Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent times and the Spanish club has also shown their interest in him. Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano earlier claimed that Los Blancos were “advancing with confidence” and had a feeling that the deal was “really close”.
Some Premier League giants like Liverpool and Arsenal have reportedly kept their track on Mbappe as well, according to a report by the Independent. While the Gunners want to bolster their forward line, Liverpool have been looking for a deserving replacement for Mohamed Salah, who might shift his base to Saudi Arabia following the exit of boss Jurgen Klopp.
Romano has now shared a detailed update about Mbappe during a recent interaction with Caught Offside. According to him, PSG have two plans in place if the French international leaves the club next summer. Romano reckons the Parisian club will try their best to convince Mbappe to a contract extension. If they fail to do so, PSG may look for some fresh signings.
“The first plan is the optimistic one – to keep Mbappe at the club, extend his contract, and build the squad with Mbappe. The second one is in case Mbappe leaves as a free agent, and so PSG have something in place for that. They have prepared for this possibility,” Romano told the outlet for his Daily Briefing column.
PSG might target AC Milan striker Rafael Leao as a replacement for Mbappe, Romano understands. He said, “PSG want something in attack and Rafael Leao is really appreciated by the club. But there have been a lot of rumours and the truth is they have still not decided who is their top target in that position.”
Romano further predicted that the Ligue 1 champions might also go for Manchester City star Bernardo Silva, whom they wanted to sign last summer. They are reportedly in pursuit of a centre-back as well, with Lille’s Leny Yoro being the top target. The French defender, who is represented by Cristiano Ronaldo’s former agent Jorge Mendes, may also attract offers from Manchester United and Real Madrid.
