New Delhi: The two Kolkata clubs – East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have agreed to release their players for the national camp as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) promised the look into the demands of the clubs on or before July 10.
As many as nine players wouldn’t have been able to attend the national camp, as the two Kolkata clubs had decided not to let their players report to the national camp, and if they disregard the orders, their salary would be deducted.
However, a following a meeting between Indian Football Association (IFA) secretary, Utpal Ganguly and the two clubs in question, it was decided that the players be allowed to attend the national camp for now.
"The clubs have decided to release their players only for this tour. By July 10, the AIFF shall discuss the issues raised by the clubs. They promised that the medical expenses of any player injured while in the national camp shall be taken care of by the AIFF.
"The clubs are also looking for cover of the fees payable to the player, while he returns injured from the national camp," said Ganguly.
Officials from the two clubs spoke along the same lines and added that by releasing their players, it wasn’t that their stand has softened.
"They shall have Praful Patel to attend the meeting as well when the matter between the clubs and the AIFF is being discussed," said a senior East Bengal official.
Mohun Bagan General Secretary Anjan Mitra added that they need clarity in the rules which shall help the cause of everyone involved in Indian football.
"The rules have to be clear so as to avoid any confusion later," said Mitra.
