‘When I Was With the Indian Team, Many People Told Me To…’ Ishan Kishan Reflects on His Learnings During his Time off From Cricket
Speaking after the MI vs RCB game, Ishan Kishan revealed how important was it for him to take time off from cricket and focus on the smaller things, and that helped him come back stronger.

Ishan Kishan has had a very interesting six months in cricket. A lot has been said and written about how the wicketkeeper-batter from being primed to be a big star in the national team went on to lose his central contract. During that time, he withdrew from India’s overseas assignment and took time off from cricket to recalibrate, and come IPL 2024, the former India U19 skipper seems to be getting back to his attacking self. He notched up his first fifty of IPL 204 – a match-winning 69 against RCB helping MI run down a target of 197 with relative ease.

Speaking to another star of the match, Suryakumar Yadav, who hit a blistering 18-ball 52, after the MI vs RCB game, Kishan revealed how important was it for him to take time off from cricket and focus on the smaller things, and that helped him come back stronger.

“When we play regularly, we tend to forget our bases, the small things that are important. We just keep on playing with the same flow, but when you take some time off you realise a lot of things, and those small things that are important that come into perspective,” said Kishan, who last played at the highest level before the IPL 2024 way back in November, immediately after the World Cup against Australia in the T20 series.

“I was talking to HP [Hardik Pandya] bhai the other day and he said, always batting in 6th gear is not important. When I was with the Indian team, many people, including you, told me to rotate the strike, and I realised the bowlers are not always sure whether you are going for the big hit every time or you are trying to go for the singles, so these small things I have work on a lot and trying to put that it into practice in the game as well,” he added.
